Nightmares & Lucid Dreaming
What is the nature of nightmares and lucid dreams? Can you get rid of nightmares with lucid dreams? How can you turn a nightmare into a lucid dream?
If your dreams frequently play out like the latest horror films, and you're not enjoying it, you may have an issue. During nightmares, you don't realize that you 're dreaming, so the dream is a reflection of your subconscious state of mind. Some nightmares are extremely vivid, inducing physiological changes along with sensations of pain, worry, fear, etc.
Some may wonder why they always seem to have bad dreams or nightmares. The answer may not be easily understood because the cause is usually subjective. Studies show that nightmares are usually caused by stress, sickness, unresolved conflict, depression, trauma, drugs, or alcohol.
To stop ongoing nightmares, some introspection needs to occur within the individual. Review the areas of your life which correspond with the common causes of nightmares, reflect upon them and firmly seek to resolve any issues that you may become aware of. Practicing self-awareness will help you notice any issues as they arise.
Lucid dreaming can aid in overcoming nightmares by giving you the ability to transform them into different dreams, as well as helping to reveal the source of the nightmares through direct subconscious communication.
So, if you're having a nightmare, don't dismiss it. Use lucidity to engage in a conversation with the dream, dream characters, etc, and discover the source of your fear. This will help you explain the cause, have a meaningful exchange, and prevent future nightmares.
How To Turn Nightmares Into Lucid Dreams
A strange way one can actually enter a lucid dream is to be shocked into lucidity by an intense nightmare. The nightmare can be so overwhelming, so frightening, that it spontaneously causes lucidity. It's common for a nightmare to be occurring as the dreamer is telling themselves to wake up.
If it gets to the point where you are telling yourself to wake up, you already know that you are dreaming. Right now you are semi-lucid and need to regain composure, calm down, tell yourself that you are dreaming, do a reality check, stabilize the dream and proceed.
The nightmare may disappear upon realization. If it doesn't, you can use dream control to change the dream and do whatever you'd like. You can also use this opportunity to talk to the dream, asking it why you were having nightmares, and how they can be resolved.
With that, you have the tools to perform alchemy and change your nightmares into gold. Be easy and keep Livin' Lucid Dreams...
